Nothing too exciting I'm afraid but since I needed something to test the scanner with and I had the magazine to hand I thought I'd post number nine on Mad's 'Fifty Worst Things About Movies'.

No surely not. Is there any chance at all that you've mistakenly let that repulsive TV movie cloud your judgement when it comes to the first two movies which I believe are considered by many to be modern cinematic classics?

Is there any chance at all that you've mistakenly let that repulsive TV movie cloud your judgment when it comes to the first two movies which I believe are considered by many to be modern cinematic classics? You know, maybe you're right. I've never been a big movie go-er and that is most likely part of the reason why I was never a big fan of the whole TV/Movie thingy either. But, when it comes to the Brady movie, I saw a few clips from it on TV and it left me with the impression that the movies mainly took the more well known jokes from the show, lumped them all together in some kind of new (but still Brady like) plotline and exaggerated the hell out of them. It's like what "Head" did for The Monkees. Nothing to boost their career, but it became a cult classic. You're right though, maybe I should see the whole thing right through before I let the idea just turn me off completely to it.

I watched the first two movies before the series so I can vouch that even without getting any of the Brady references they both work purely on the level of being fish-out-of -water comedies about a '70s family in the '90s. Now though I can appreciate them more because there are so many background references and in-jokes especially for the fans. There are also quite a few classic moments that are recreated but there's usually a amusing twist to them so it's not like watching a Brady Bunch highlight reel.
I think that the fact that did them as parodies as opposed to just filming a feature length "lost" episode with a replacement cast was a real tribute to the original series. While the characters are exaggerated they don't give Cindy ridiculous oversized pigtails or anything like that, it's more a case of presenting a CliffsNotes version focusing only on each person's most recognizable characteristics.
I definitely think you, or any other Brady fan for that matter, should at least give the first two movies a shot although I couldn't recommend the Whitehouse TV movie
